McDonald's announced yesterday during an investor meeting that they will beserving mozzarella sticks nationwide starting in 2016. 

And the internet, ever opinionated, has plenty to say on the matter. Many are overjoyed, while others liken the announcement to a legendary American geopolitical crisis. 

The chain started testing them in Wisconsin over the summer, and they went over extremely well, especially for those looking for a small and quick snack.

We decided to taste test this momentous addition to the Golden Arches' menu to see how the sticks stack up.

The sticks are available at some locations already, but will have a national rollout next year. You get your choice of sauce – including good, old-fashioned marinara.

With only three sticks per box, it's a small serving. But at $1 a box, it's not a bad deal.

They smell delicious — cheesy and fried to perfection. But then again, what fried food doesn't smell great?

The sticks measure about the length of a pinkie finger, so they're not huge. But a shorter length means they're less likely to break or crumble.

When fresh and piping hot, the mozzarella sticks are surprisingly stringy and melty. It tastes like real mozzarella — I'm optimistic. However, they cool off rapidly so don't expect your to-go sticks to sizzle.

The breading is well seasoned. I'm surprised by how flavorful the coating is — I was expecting soggy blandness.

The accompanying marinara sauce is, well ... average. It's a tad sweet for my taste and certainly not chunky. But you get a whole pack for only three sticks, which may be the first time the McDonald's sauce-to-food ratio is on target.

While the mozzarella sticks are far from gourmet, they're not as bad as one expects — as long as they're hot. Once they go cold, all bets are off. But for a mere $1, it's hard to go wrong for a quick and melty snack.
